Terrain's key role is to support the maintenance and implementation of the Regional NRM Plan. To do this the organisation works to broker support and funding and help to align efforts to achive our regional NRM plan.

In this role Terrain and its network of partners offer access to extensive experience and expertise across a number of specialty areas. These include strategic planning and assessment, project development, partnership and resource development and monitoring and evaluation in areas such as:

• Landscape rehabilitation and management
• Sustainable agricultural production
• Biodiversity conservation
• Cultural heritage and traditional knowledge management systems, as well as
• Community engagement, education and training

Terrain works closely with the region's Catchment and Landcare groups, Local Government, Traditional Owners, industry, the conservation sector and government to provide a range of on-ground delivery services.

These include support for landscape restoration projects, including the design and planting of revegetation corridors for riparian improvement, water quality outcomes and biodiversity values, or sustainable production advice including soil conservation or industry-specific best practice, to pest and weed control. Our team also possess expertise in customary land and sea management practices and provides support to a range of projects through partnerships with Traditional Owner organisations across the region.

Terrain also plays a key role in the region through maintaining close links with Commonwealth and State Government agencies to access and/or inform future policies and programs and funding opportunities. It also supports coordination and cooperation between government and non-government organisations working within the region.

Terrain supports the development and implementation of new initiatives to strengthen natural resource management in the region such as the emerging carbon-trading market, payments for ecosystems services and environmental offsets brokering.
