Cassowaries, echidnas and other wildlife crossing roads during the busy Mission Beach Film Festival were safer thanks to Mission Beach State School.

Year 6 students designed roadside signage to enhance driver awareness of wildlife with Terrain NRM coordinating the project.

"Typical of Mission Beach, it's been a team effort. Main Roads approved the temporary signs, C4 sponsored the printing and Liz Gallie graphically enhanced the artwork to maximise visibility to drivers," said Terrain CEO Dr Allan Dale. In addition, local residents Niall and Mandy helped install the signs.

Last year's signs were recycled by displaying them on site at the festival. Festival guests Daryl Hannah and Malcolm Turnbull enjoyed being photographed with the kids and their wildlife signs.
