Terrain works closely with local councils and the Far North Queensland Regional Association of Councils (FNQROC) to support a wide range of pest and weed management projects across the region. Projects supported range from on-ground weed control projects, through to mapping, planning and prioritisation initiatives that support the effectiveness of on-ground efforts. To deal with the major threats to agriculture and the environment caused by feral pigs, Terrain is working in partnership with the region's councils, catchment and industry groups to develop an Integrated Feral Pig Management program. Based on experience with trials in the Herbert, Tully and lower Johnstone Catchments the aim is to develop fully self-funding integrated pig management systems in key catchments in the Wet Tropics over the next five years. Programs and projects to deal with other animal pests such tilapia, deer and rabbits are also being supported.
