A Wet Tropics experience well earned
Written by Kathryn Dryden

The 'NRM North Queensland Style' Thongs and facebook competition has come to a close and Terrain has picked the well earned winner!

Terrain received just 10 entries in the competition, but with small numbers, comes great effort, enthusiasm and interest.

This has been an exciting and fun experiment attempting to connect with interested and passionate people whilst giving them an opportunity to get a taste for a career in the environment.

Terrain's Communications Officer Kathryn Dryden said, "We've connected with nearly 250 people providing free 'Terrain' thongs and promoting the region's valuable natural resources along with Terrain's role in supporting it.

"It's so far brought over 170 people to our facebook page and generated some interesting and fun discussion."

Mathilda Brunhilda is our winner and will recieve 1 month of paid work experience with Terrain!  CONGRATULATIONS MATHILDA!thongs_at_Eubenangee

We just love the red toes!! A beautiful scenic picture of Catana Wetlands with Matilda in it. We can see in her picture our fabulous Wet Tropics lifestyle and the link to us (humans) being a part of the landscape. Some light-hearted discussion has been generated as a result, and Mathilda brought 16 people to our facebook page. Her discription touches on landuses and their influence on the precious wetland as well. CONGRATULATIONS MATHILDA!

Stacey Sustainable is one entry we must highlight due to the strong and important message along with the amount of attention it attracted!  Her entry attracted 100 people to Terrain's facebook page!  Stacey will be recieving a prize due to her great effort and we hope that she continues to connect with Terrain.

All entries are encouraged not to lose touch with Terrain as there may well be opportunities for work experience via other avenues in the future.  If you are one of the fabulous entrants and would like feedback on your entry, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Thanks goes to JCU Cairns for spreading the word of the competition to students, and to ABC radio.

To see the entries scroll down Terrain's facebook page to find the pics.  Some thought has gone into the messages the pics are depicting too.

Image: The winning entry (Mathilda Brunhilda) has taken a picture of the beautiful Catana Wetland with the description: "Wetlands are an important ecosystem and habitat for many species.  Unfortunately, wetlands are threatened by farming, siltation and many other activities. Terrain helps actively to save this precious countryside.  Thank you!"
