Google is your friend

Google is your friend because of their savvy web based tools which help to ease your communication stress and make your online presence sparkle. In particular the Google Maps, Google Docs and Google Chrome tools are useful for project reporting and communications as used by the Yasi Environmental Recovery Project.

Google Maps is a very usable tool for people in NRM land. The Yasi Environmental Recovery Project has used Google Maps to display the project sites visually and online. Marvel at it here. The map is interactive and is embedded in the Yasi Project web page where it automatically updates whenever the map is updated on Google Maps by the project coordinators.

The map not only offers geographical representation of the project area, but also pop-up images and descriptions of the work taking place within the project sites. Before and after images of revegetation work can be seen, and hopefully as time goes by images of the established revegetation work will be added. Google Maps is a great tool to visually display disaster recovery progress within the landscape.

It is important to 'get with the times' in terms of new communication methods and Google offers user friendly ways to be contemporary with project management and communications. Google Chrome and Google Docs help to make document sharing simple, fast and extremely convenient – all you need is access to the web!

The Yasi Environmental Recovery Project is funded by the Queensland Government's Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative. Terrain is proud to be part of the Operation Clean Up program, working with the community to rebuild after cyclone Yasi.
