Terrain's Yasi Environmental Recovery Crews are gaining skills not only in conservation and rehabilitation, but in personal budgeting and health management. A day was set aside amongst the crews' busy work schedules to get some extra training where team members had access to money management and health and nutrition professionals.
A qualified social worker conducted the money management seminar and the health and nutrition seminar was run by Queensland Health's Healthy Great Way program with Mamu's indigenous community health workers. Terrain's CEO Carole Sweatman said, "I think we can all benefit from extra skills and helpful hints when it comes to money and our health. The day promoted good financial habits and better eating, both of which are valuable tools for any employee." During the health and nutrition seminar the crews were informed about the nutritional value of processed food and making healthier eating choices. This was demonstrated by a back-to-school cooking class where they made and most happily ate a healthy snack of bruschetta. Feedback from the seminars was generally very good, with some participants seeking additional budgeting support. The Yasi Environmental Recovery Project is funded by the Queensland Government's Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative. Terrain is proud to be part of the Operation Clean Up program, working with the community to rebuild after cyclone Yasi.
