Facebook is proving to be a great youth engagement tool for Russell Landcare and Catchment Group. It launched a new Facebook page three months ago and coordinator, Daryl Killin, and secretary, Selena Nelson, share the regular updates. Daryl says it is particularly powerful in connecting with older students and believes that other catchment groups should consider using it. Photos of Eubenangee and the coastal zone are featured on the site as a result of a photo competition that ran from June to September. This has also proved popular with kids. The winners (and over $800 in prizes) will be announced in early October. Check it out! Search for Russell Landcare and Catchment Group or click on the image below. As a result of this push to connect with the next generation, Babinda P-12 State School teacher Kristine Erwood has organised a field day centred around the catchment group's work on Giddens Creek. Scheduled for Monday, October 10, the day will focus on water quality – where our rubbish ends up (in the drain and the ocean!). Terrain and council staff will help with training in water quality monitoring , weed and insect identification and erosion management. |
