Regional Natural Resource Management (NRM) groups will share $11 million of Queensland Government funding to continue their work improving and preserving the state's environment.

Natural Resources Minister Rachel Nolan announced the funding for 14 groups as part of the Queensland Government's five year $86 million Q2 Coasts and Country program.

"Q2 Coasts and Country has now invested $44 million into 14 NRM groups across the state to manage projects which are working to improve their local environments," Ms Nolan said.

"This funding helps ensure the regional NRM bodies can continue their great work and also help the environment to recover from the natural disasters that smashed Queensland earlier this year.

"These organisations provide a crucial link between the government and communities to improve, restore and protect rangelands, waterways, wetlands and wildlife habitats.

"This funding delivers on the Government's promise to create a cleaner, greener Queensland."

Ms Nolan said regional NRM bodies dealt with the big issues confronting Queensland's natural resources, including loss of biodiversity, water quality, wetlands, coastal risks, sustainable agriculture, and weed and pest management.

"Regional NRM bodies increase community's awareness about environmental issues and encourage people to get involved," she said.

The funding announced today complements the federal government's Caring for our Country initiative.

The Q2 Coasts and Country program advances the combined efforts of government, industry and the community to sustainably manage our natural assets.
