The Yasi Recovery Bulletin comes to a close
Written by Kathryn Dryden

An array of partners have been contributing stories and notices regarding the progress of natural recovery in and around the area affected by TC Yasi.  Here is a link to the most recent edition of the Cassowary Coast's Yasi Natural Recovery Bulletin.

Under the authority of the Queensland Disaster Management Act 2003, The Cassowary Coast Regional Council has developed the Cyclone Yasi Recovery Plan which aims to provide a frame-work for all sectors of the community to work together during the recovery process.

A Natural Environment Recovery Group has been implementing the Natural Environment component of the Plan. Updates, stories and notices regarding recovery efforts from various partners involved in this Group are promoted via the Yasi Natural Recovery Bulletin.

The Bulletin has been a publication targeted at raising community awareness of the importance of the environment and related recovery activities via print and web.  It aimed to encourage residents across the affected areas to show care particularly in relation to the region's endangered and threatened wildlife.  It also aimed to equip residents to make informed decisions regarding their own backyard management along with providing contact information for organisations who can help in relevant situations.

Terrain NRM has played a coordination role in developing and driving the publication and all 7 editions are available on their website at the Yasi portal

Due to time passing on and recovery being underway, the need for urgent community notices has diminished, therefore the Bulletin will no longer be published.  The messages however are still important.  Further natural recovery news will continue to be distributed to the public via the Cassowary Coast Regional Council's Recovery Newsletter.  Terrain NRM and other partners will continue to promote environmental recovery also.

Whilst the Bulletin has ceased, the collaborations between partnering organisations has not.

The Bulletin was a fantastic example of strategic collaboration and resource sharing across a broad array of organisations (government, community and not-for-profit) in a disaster response situation and Terrain was proud to be in a position to support it.
