Sandgate MP Vicky Darling has today been endorsed by Caucus as Queensland's Environment Minister, filling the Cabinet position left vacant by Kate Jones.

Premier Anna Bligh said Ms Darling - the Member for Sandgate since 2006 - will assume the Environment portfolio on Wednesday after being sworn in at Government House.

Finance and Arts Minister Rachel Nolan has been allocated responsibility for Natural Resources.

"Vicky has and will continue to be a strong representative for her local community and has also been a hard-working Member of Parliament in her roles as Deputy Government Whip and on the Scrutiny of Legislation Committee," she said.

"She will be a valuable member of my Cabinet team as we get on with the job of building Queensland back better in this year of rebuilding and recovery."

Brisbane Central MP Grace Grace will assume the role of Deputy Whip.

Ms Darling has been a passionate champion of environmental causes in her electorate - including extensive consultation on the Moreton Bay Marine Park and was closely involved in stakeholder consultation in the development of the government's draft Biodiversity Strategy.
