Lower Burdekin Landcare Group has made the first program announcements for this year's Queensland Landcare Conference, being held in Ayr 20 – 23 September.

With 32 sessions already confirmed, the program promises to offer something for everyone. The theme of the conference, Generations of Guardians has led to a number of sessions which focus on engaging young people in community programs as well as traditional land management and working in the rangelands.

Graham Andersen, Chair Lower Burdekin Landcare Group said the program offers something for everyone.

"We have put together a very broad program," Graham said, "with a view to attracting the widest possible audience to our event."

"Our keynote speaker Dr Linda Selvey, CEO Greenpeace Australia Pacific will speak about Australia's future foodsecurity," Graham said. "Dr Selvey's presentation will address the threats to Australia's food security including climate change, water shortages, changes in land use and overfishing and some of the strategies we will need to apply to address them."

Other conference guests will present on topics as diverse as: innovations in engaging landcare volunteers; carbon opportunities for agriculture; linking youth with landcare; Queensland's first biodiversity strategy; web-based delivery for sustainable agriculture; natural disaster responses landcare-style; generations of guardians in the rangelands; Indigenous land management and Native Americans; and managing wetlands.

Early bird registration is only $380 (more for agency staff).
