Forum opportunity—have your say on Wild Rivers
Written by Kathryn Dryden

A series of information forums and consultation meetings regarding the proposal for the Cooper Creek Basin Wild River declaration will be held over the next three months.

Environment and Resource Management Minister Kate Jones said the meetings will enable residents to ask the Department for Environment and Resource Management (DERM) specific questions about their individual properties, as well as to have their say on how to best manage the unique environment of the iconic Cooper Creek.

"After visiting the basin and meeting face-to-face with land owners, cattle graziers and other locals I saw how flooding and heavy rainfall had meant that many people in the property declaration area needed more time to properly consider the proposal," Ms Jones said.

Wild River Coordinators and officers specialising in water and land management will host information forums in Quilpie and Hughenden in April and in Windorah in May.

Wild River Coordinators will host consultation meetings and will be available to discuss individual concerns and provide maps to individual landholders in several locations from Charleville to Jericho during April and May.
