ABC's new Yasi Radio Station
Written by Kathryn Dryden

Richard Dinnen sent us this message regarding Cyclone Yasi recovery:

"G’day from the road. For the past two weeks I’ve been travelling the area hit by Cyclone Yasi, setting up a new ABC radio station.

It’s called ABC Cassowary Coast, named after the local council area that covers the cyclone zone. It has a website at www.abc.net.au/farnorth/cassowarycoast

Our daily broadcast from 0635 Qld time is streamed there.

A radio station needs a mascot, and we have one. He’s our new friend, C 1. He’s a very friendly cassowary. The name is inspired by other ABC cuddly characters B 1 and B2, the famous Bananas in Pyjamas.

So the cassowary is C 1. He loves fruit, his chicks, cruising in the ABC 4WD, and he’s very social.

So much so he’s on social media and he hopes you’ll be his friend on Facebook. You’ll find him and us there by being friends with Seeone at Facebook.

In the cyclone zone, you can hear the ABC Cassowary Coast broadcast each weekday at 0635, on 95.5FM between Innisfail and Tully, 89.3FM in Mission Beach, the adjacent beach communities and on Dunk Island, and 96.5FM in Cardwell and surrounds.

Please spread the word and make friends with Seeone on the radio and on Facebook today.

Cheers

Rd"
