Cultural Heritage Grants

The Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) administers the cultural heritage grants program to help preserve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage in Queensland.

DERM offers assistance under two funding arrangements:

Cultural heritage grants program - This grant provides limited financial assistance of up to $15 000 towards projects aiming to preserve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage sites and areas in Queensland.

Cultural heritage body grants program - This grant provides financial assistance of up to $10 000 to registered cultural heritage bodies in Queensland. The purpose of this grant is to help cultural heritage bodies fulfil their legislative responsibilities under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003.

Applications for the cultural heritage grants have now closed.

The following Grant Applications have been approved for 2009-2010:

Cultural Heritage Grants

Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation – Mossman - memorial and fencing of Old Daintree Mission Cemetery (fencing, plaque, signage).

Walmbaar Aboriginal Corporation – Hopevale - Cultural Heritage database (GPS, camera and other equipment).

Dhubbi Warra Aboriginal Corporation – Cooktown - Cultural Heritage database (GPS, camera and other equipment).

Djunbunji Limited Land and Sea Project – Yarrabah - develop a Cultural Heritage (food) Trail (signage, native plants, irrigation system, shaded plant nursery).

Mamu Aboriginal Corporation – Innisfail - protection of sites of importance to the Mamu People (documentation of stories and sites, GPS, surveying and signage).

Mona Mona Bulmba Aboriginal Corporation – Kuranda - identification of historical and traditional sites of significance (signage, education, evaluation and recording of sites).

Cultural Heritage Body Grants

Mamu Aboriginal Corporation – Innisfail - (web based CHIMS software).
