A few good men – moving on, but not away!

Councillor Paul Gregory, Terrain's past Director – Local Government and Dr Allan Dale, Terrain's past CEO, were both acknowledged and applauded at the AGM in Innisfail on 26th Dec 2010.

Terrain's Chair Mike Berwick congratulated both Allan and Paul for their significant contributions to NRM in the Wet Tropics.

Paul said, "I guess what's given me the biggest buzz has been the strengthening of relationships between Terrain and Local Government. This will lead to greater opportunities in the future, as planning documents across the region can now be lined up for better results on the ground." Paul is also pleased with the work done around catchments, as water quality is his main area of interest.

After stepping away from directorship with Terrain, Paul will continue to be connected through his involvement in other environmental related activities. These include managing his family cane farm in Gordonvale, Councillor with Cairns Regional Council, and member of both Mulgrave and Russell Landcare and Catchment groups.

Cr Julia Leu has been elected and approved by members to be Paul's successor. Cr Leu is currently Division 10 Councillor in the Cairns Regional Council and runs a commercial organic exotic fruit orchid in the Daintree area. Her current membership of NRM relevant organizations includes: WTMA Board Member, National Sea Change Task Force Qld Executive Member, Douglas Local Area Marine Advisory Committee, and FNQ ROC as Proxy for the Mayor.

Allan, who has been CEO of the organisation since 2005, has decided to step back from the role to spend more time with his family. Whilst he is no longer at the helm, he is still affiliated closely with Terrain through some strategic projects particularly focusing on climate and water. Just a handful of the many key achievements Allan contributed to and/or drove include:

  • Reef Rescue
  • Degree Celsius
  • Green Corridor
  • Landcare for Larry

Many of our members will have met Allan's successor Carole Sweatman who has been working hard to get out and meet as many members/partners as possible through the Members' Forums. You can expect to see more of Carole from now on.
