Members' Forums a hit!
Written by Kathryn Dryden

Terrain has undertaken a suite of area-based Members' forums around the region as well as at the AGM. Guest speakers also added value regarding engaging Gen-Y and the Herbert Information portal.

The AGM/Members' Forum was well attended and it was indicated by attendees and Terrain directors that the opportunity for discussion was valuable. Unfortunately our new CEO Carole Sweatman was unable to make it due to illness. All will be glad to know she is well again and has been briefed on the outcomes of the forums. She will be leading a refreshed organisational direction for the new year based on these key outcomes.

Sam Morris from Wombat Creative presented the Landcare Queensland case study of the 'Do it in the Bush' campaign. This highlighted challenges particularly around generational gaps and different viewpoints which may limit effective engagement. Sarah Douglass (a JCU student) presented on her challenges with engaging her own generation, suggesting that provision of opportunities for young people is important. If they are aware of the benefits through building skills and gaining exposure to work experience and decision making, they are more likely to be involved.

In addition, Raymond De Lai from the Herbert Resource Information Centre presented on the Information Portal, a web-based mapping program contributed to by a number of partners. More information on this will be forthcoming in the new year.
