The Feds have come to Town

The Wet Tropics was lucky enough to have The Australian Government's Claire Howlett and Peter Cotsell drive through the region to get a glimpse of our landscape, activities and issues.

Claire and Peter both have significant roles in the review and future roll-out of the Australian Government's Caring for Our Country (CFOC) program particularly relating to business systems, budgets, policy and investment. Their visit included meeting Terrain staff in Ingham who took the opportunity to present some of the key NRM activities and issues Terrain is involved in on behalf of the region. Some of the great successes were highlighted, along with discussion regarding the needs to support future NRM activities across the region. Strengthening of the partnership with the Australian Government was a key outcome of this discussion.

Peter and Claire provided an update on what's happening in Canberra particularly around developments of the CFOC program. They emphasized that they will be seeking a stronger partnership with Regional Bodies across the State and aim to adjust their approach to better support the success of all relevant projects.

Peter said "Terrain's reports to the Australian Government have been some of the best - they have included fantastic information and associated outcomes."

Terrain's CEO Carole Sweatman said, "There is no doubt that the positive partnership between Terrain and the Australian Government will further grow. The time Peter and Claire have taken to see our region and meet our staff has been invaluable and we look forward to a constructive and positive relationship."
