FARMERS would be able to earn money from planting trees and reducing pollution as Labor seeks to shore up its climate change credentials. Prime Minister Julia Gillard will today unveil a plan to enable farmers who help reduce and store pollution to get credits which could be sold in Australia and overseas. The new Carbon Farming Initiative would give them and other landholders a concrete way of participating in lucrative international markets for carbon credits. Ms Gillard said there would be no restrictions on the number of credits that could be generated and the initiative could be worth about $500 million over 10 years. ''Farmers and landholders will benefit from a new income stream, and the environment will benefit from reduced pollution,'' Ms Gillard said..
