Local artist Rod Ramage has leaped to the aid of the economically-challenged Frog Decline Reversal Project by donating a painting which can be sold by the group.
A textured piece in subtle shades of turquoise and copper, it sports lilypads complete with 3 dimensional frog. Thanks to the generousity of space at the Marlin Tiles showroom on Water Street (next to Cairns Central), the painting is being exhibited for viewing by art collectors, home renovators, interior designers and those who have a couple spare quid who simply love anything froggy.
FDR Project President Deborah Pergolotti was grateful to the artist and Marlin Tiles for coming together to assist the under-resourced group. She explained, "The economy really started to disrupt our activities back in early 2007 and it has gotten exponentially worse since then. Grant programs don't cover the types expenses we have so we need to be creative in our fundraising. However, rescue and disease work is intensive and we can't chase money full time and do care full time." Marlin Tiles manager Brent Edmunds has been supportive to the frog carers over the years and he agreed to offer the painting for display in his shop because, "the unique work of the frog hospital needs to be supported, but especially so in this difficult economy". The Ramage work can be viewed at the Marlin Tiles showroom Monday to Friday; the shop is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Phone 4031-4300. |
