Biodiversity in the Far North Qld at risk from climate change
Written by Michele Dale
Biodiversity in Far North Queensland is at risk from climate change, and landowners hold the key to protecting endangered species such as the cassowary. Under the federal Government's proposed Emissions Trading Scheme, a price would be set for carbon and a market place would develop between those holding carbon in their land and those using carbon and releasing it into the atmosphere. Terrain wants the Fed Govt to go one step further by creating a higher tier of payments for sequestering carbon which has the best biodiversity outcome.
