In the first week of August base level funding for Terrain NRM was approved at $1,459,000 for 2009/2010. In addition Terrain has been awarded $8,327,632 over a 3 year period for projects under the second round of Reef Rescue. Together with its industry and community partners the aim of the proposed projects is to secure reduced nutrient, pesticide and sediment loads to the Reef via measurable changes in the uptake of agricultural practices in the Wet Tropics' catchments. The delivery of these projects in 2009/2010 will continue to accelerate practice change, refine risk-based priorities, and maintain capacities to benchmark continuous improvement in the sugar, horticultural and grazing industries. Other approved CFOC proposals are still being negotiated. CFOC was a highly competitive process and with the success of the Reef Rescue Program, the region has been well funded. |
