A range of community groups are working together to protect and promote a location called 'Ninney Rise' which was donated to the State for conservation back in 1990. It has a colourful history prior to then - being used to explore the reef and campaign for its protection.
The Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland, Mission Beach Tourism, Cassowary Coast Alliance, Community for Coastal and Cassowary Conservation (C4), and Terrain NRM combined are are the 'Friends of Ninney Rise'. They are working together to make the rainforest block set by the Coral Sea into a place for science, tourism and community.
The location has an interesting history with a string of passionate owners including John Busst who was a campaigner, inviting politicians and scientists to protect the Reef.
There is loads of potential for this piece of history and Friends of Ninney Rise want your help to keep it alive.
