Terrain NRM has delivered four years of the Reveg-net.au project across the Wet Tropics, collaborating with Private Forestry Services Queensland. It is part of a larger project seeking to mitigate threats to biodiversity, the Great Barrier Reef and coastal hotspots and encompasses six NRM regions in partnership. In the Wet Tropics, this project has engaged landholders in the development of property management plans and their implementation through coordination and delivery of incentive-based grants, with a focus on sustainable timber production and ecosystem services. The project has enabled the development of prioritisation mapping that supports a targeted approach to enhanced vegetation management.

In the last four years, Terrain NRM has provided 53 property grants made up of over $260,000 from the Australian Government’s Caring for Our Country initiative, matched with more than $390,000 inkind from landholders.

  • Assisted 29 properties in enhanced vegetation mapping with the state government
  • Trained 13 traditional owners of Eastern Kuku Yalanji in forest condition assessment
  • Engaged 67 properties covering a total of 68,760 ha of vegetated area including 562 ha of plantation forest, to improve vegetation management outcomes
  • Directly managed 3,288 ha of vegetated land through weed and native vegetation management
  • Supported the development of integrated property planning and implementation for a cluster of eight properties
